HR Generalist

About the position

The HR Generalist provides full-service human resources management for hourly and salaried employees at the facility, under the oversight of the Sr. Human Resources Manager. The role covers employee relations, staffing, HR process management, training, compliance, and safety. It also leads non-exempt HR staff and clerical staff in assigned work and records management.

• Coordinate and conduct orientation and onboarding for new hires.
• Promote an open-door policy and positive employee relations in an environment free of organized labor.
• Plan, manage, and track employee recognition and incentive programs, engagement activities, and celebrations.
• Maintain employee communication centers using newsletters, posters, memorandums, and other media.
• Conduct employee investigations, prepare reports, recommend resolutions, assist supervisors with disciplinary actions, and conduct exit interviews.
• Plan and coordinate recruitment of non-exempt applicants, recommend recruiting strategies, support interviews and offers, and manage automated onboarding.
• Manage internal job postings and related documentation, and partner with contracted agencies to align temporary staffing with business needs.
• Maintain HR records, lead clerical staff in records management, prepare staffing reports, maintain budget and expense controls, monitor supervisor compliance, and audit records for data integrity.
• Manage local leaves of absence in partnership with third parties and Store Support Center staff.
• Prepare witness documentation and testify at unemployment hearings; advise management on legal and policy compliance.
• Maintain non-exempt HR staff time and attendance records, and lead non-exempt HR staff in job duties and projects.
• Assist the HR Manager with annual budget preparation and monthly expenditure reports.
• Prepare and facilitate HR leadership training on interviewing, equal employment opportunity, diversity, fair labor standards, and internal policies; manage facility certification programs and training for special projects and pilot programs.
• Monitor employment-law and company-policy compliance, provide compliance orientation to new employees, and maintain required employment posters.
• Participate on the safety team and in accident reviews, monitor reporting compliance, and recommend corrective actions.
• Work the days, shifts, and hours necessary to accomplish objectives.

• Thorough knowledge of human resources principles and practices, including employee relations, hiring, training, performance management, and employment law.
• Ability to build effective working relationships at all organizational levels.
• Ability to research legal compliance and use analytical skills to formulate best practices.
• Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to present reports to management.
• Computer skills in Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and HRIS such as Lawson, KRONOS, and SharePoint.
• Post-secondary education at the bachelor's level in human resources management, industrial psychology, business administration, or a related area; alternatively, three to five years in a progressively responsible HR generalist position without a college degree.
• With a bachelor's degree, at least three years in a professional or managerial human resources position.
