Serve as the company's hands-on financial leader, maintaining direct involvement in accounting operations while providing strategic financial guidance to the CEO and Board of Directors.
Lead the accounting and finance function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll oversight, treasury, financial reporting, and monthly close.
Oversee a structured transition of the accounting function from the current Office Manager, documenting existing processes while establishing scalable financial systems and controls.
Partner with the CEO and Board to develop annual budgets, rolling forecasts, cash flow projections, financial models, and long-term strategic plans.
Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements while delivering meaningful variance analysis, KPIs, and actionable recommendations to executive leadership.
Lead construction job costing by tracking project costs, monitoring budget-to-actual performance, identifying variances early, and improving project profitability reporting.
Establish a process for tracking and invoicing value-engineering savings and shared-savings contract provisions, ensuring all recoverable revenue opportunities are properly recognized and collected.
Partner with field leadership to strengthen job cost documentation, change order tracking, and project profitability reporting as the business continues to scale.
Oversee payroll processing for approximately 25 employees while ensuring compliance with all federal and Georgia payroll tax requirements.
Manage accounts receivable, contract billing, progress billings, change orders, collections, and overall working capital management.
Maintain oversight of fixed assets, equipment financing, lease obligations, and capital planning for the company's equipment fleet.
Manage banking relationships, cash management, and liquidity planning while providing recommendations regarding financing and capital allocation.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and all federal, state, and local tax requirements while coordinating with external CPA firms and tax advisors.
Develop and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, financial procedures, and operational reporting appropriate for a growing private construction company.
Serve as the primary financial contact for external auditors, bonding companies, insurance carriers, lenders, and utility partners, ensuring the company maintains all financial documentation required for surety bonding and vendor qualification.
Evaluate current financial systems and recommend future ERP or construction accounting platform enhancements to support continued growth. Qualifications Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience with increasing leadership responsibility.
Prior experience as a Controller, Director of Finance, Assistant Controller, or first-time CFO within construction or another project-based industry.
Demonstrated experience leading the accounting function while remaining actively involved in the day-to-day financial operations.
Experience with construction accounting, job costing, project profitability reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, cash flow management, and financial planning.
Proficiency with QuickBooks, Sage, Foundation, Vista, or similar accounting software.
