DESIGN ENGINEER – COLD STORAGE & SITE DEVELOPMENT Location: Atlanta, GA Job Type: Full-Time | On-Site ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a Design Engineer with a strong civil/site development background to support the planning and pre-development of national cold storage and industrial projects. This role focuses on conceptual site planning, earthwork analysis, interior layouts, racking design, quantity takeoffs, and preliminary cost estimating. You will work with internal teams, architects, civil engineers, GCs, and customers to develop practical, cost-effective concepts. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop conceptual site plans and building layouts for cold storage and industrial facilities.
- Plan building orientation, truck courts, parking, docks, circulation, utilities, and future expansion.
- Review surveys, grading plans, and geotechnical reports to evaluate site conditions and cost drivers.
- Perform earthwork/sitework quantity takeoffs and develop preliminary cost estimates.
- Optimize building placement, grading, drainage, utilities, and finished floor elevations.
- Develop interior floor plans and racking layouts, including selective, drive-in, push-back, mobile, or ASRS systems.
- Analyze pallet volumes, SKU mix, throughput, temperature zones, dock requirements, and staging areas.
- Prepare customer presentations, site concepts, floor plans, and cost information.
- Coordinate concepts with outside civil engineers, architects, GCs, and refrigeration designers.
- Use AI and other technology to improve design and production workflows. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in site/civil design, land development, or sitework estimating for industrial, distribution, or large-footprint projects.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit.
- Experience with earthwork, quantity takeoffs, grading, drainage, stormwater, and utilities.
- Ability to develop reliable sitework cost estimates.
- Strong PowerPoint and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work with clients, consultants, and project teams. PREFERRED
- Racking/material handling design experience.
- Experience with AGTEK, Trimble Business Center, or Bluebeam.
- Experience with Enscape, Lumion, SketchUp, or similar visualization tools.
- Cold storage, food distribution, warehouse, or industrial experience.
- EIT or PE is a plus but not required.
