About the job

Overview Join our dynamic Payroll Tax Operations team as a Senior Payroll Tax Expert, where you will play a crucial role in the resolution of payroll tax issues. As a technical lead and Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will tackle the most complex payroll tax cases while mentoring less experienced team members. We are seeking a knowledgeable payroll tax professional who thrives on problem-solving, team development, and process improvement. This position focuses on rectifying payroll tax issues rather than running payroll. You will resolve intricate State and Federal tax notices, prepare amended returns across various states, and fix multi-period payroll tax errors, ensuring the team retains the knowledge needed to resolve future issues. About SelectTime SelectTime employees offer expert virtual services to Intuit's customers throughout the year with flexible scheduling options. This role requires a minimum of 20 hours per week, with the possibility of increasing to 40 hours depending on business demands. As an hourly, non-exempt position, you will be eligible for overtime pay. Responsibilities

  • Resolve complex State and Federal payroll tax notices, managing the entire lifecycle from intake through confirmed closure.
  • Prepare and file amended Federal and State payroll tax returns across multiple states, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Diagnose and correct payroll tax errors, tracing discrepancies to their source and overseeing the correction process.
  • Maintain high productivity in case resolution while ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor the team's work in progress and identify barriers to case resolution, providing proactive solutions.
  • Act as a key resource for Senior Payroll Tax Processors, providing guidance and coaching to build team capability.
  • Conduct structured coaching sessions to support team member development.
  • Contribute to team meetings, quality assurance sessions, and process improvement discussions.
  • Create, review, and approve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Knowledge Base articles for clarity and accuracy.
  • Identify trends and compliance issues, communicating findings and driving solutions.
  • Collaborate across departments to resolve interconnected issues for customers. Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience in payroll tax, with a focus on resolving tax defects and managing notice responses.
  • Expert knowledge of various payroll tax notification types and the ability to draft effective responses and documentation.
  • Hands-on experience preparing and approving amended tax returns, particularly in states with complex requirements.
  • Strong understanding of federal payroll tax laws and regulations.
  • Expertise in multi-state payroll tax compliance.
  • Experience in a lead or SME capacity, with a proven track record of mentoring team members.
  • Advanced skills in Excel for audits and reconciliations.
  • Excellent written communication skills, capable of drafting clear and actionable documentation.
  • Preferably holding an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Certification as a Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred, with expectations of obtaining within 18 months; Enrolled Agent (EA) status is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a payroll service bureau or multi-client payroll tax operations is highly desirable. Intuit offers a competitive compensation package that rewards performance. The expected base pay for this position varies by location. This role is eligible for cash bonuses, equity rewards, and benefits as outlined in Intuit's career resources.
