About the job
This is a senior, hands-on full stack position on a large enterprise web application. You'll architect a solution in the morning and be deep in a PostgreSQL execution plan by the afternoon. It is not an architecture-only role, and it is not a ticket-taking role you own design, code, testing, and the quality of what ships.
You'll also be the person other engineers come to. Mentoring the team on React and Node.js is an explicit part of the job, not a side effect of seniority
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Architect, design, code, and implement next-generation web applications in Node.js and React.js
- Build modular Single Page Application front-ends (React, Redux) and secure RESTful API microservices (Express, Knex)
- Work across the full DevOps pipeline — Jenkins, Red Hat OpenShift, Docker, SonarQube, UrbanCode
- Investigate and repair defects at any layer: front-end, business logic, middleware, or database (PL/SQL, data modeling)
- Write and optimize complex SQL queries in PostgreSQL
- Contribute to UX and accessibility compliance (Section 508 / WCAG / USDS Web Standards)
- Mentor teammates on Node.js and React
- Brief management, customers, and vendors translating complex technical detail into clear language for non-technical stakeholders
WHAT YOU BRING
- Experience & education — one of the following:Master's degree + 5 years of relevant experience
- Bachelor's degree + 7 years of relevant experience
- 13+ years of experience in lieu of a degree
- Plus a solid track record designing, building, deploying, and running production applications.
Required technical skills:
- Extensive senior-level full stack development with Node.js and React.js, including detailed understanding of UI frameworks, back-end architecture patterns, and node module capabilities
- Strong experience developing RESTful web services with Node.js
- Expertise writing and optimizing complex SQL queries in PostgreSQL
- Complex programming, debugging, data analysis, and problem resolution within open source applications
- Comprehensive knowledge of Scrum and Kanban, TDD/BDD, and Agile ceremonies — scrums, planning events, backlog grooming, retrospectives, demos
- Experience on large teams: managing and resolving merge conflicts, working across upstream and downstream dependencies
- Ability to mentor team members on Node.js and React
- Accountability for code quality and deliverables across design, development, and testing
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Additional stack exposure we'd expect at this level: TypeScript, MobX, Flux, Bootstrap, HTML/CSS
