Controls Hardware Engineer – Power Generation Location: Greater Atlanta Area, GA Employment: 12-month W2 contract-to-hire Schedule: Hybrid – three days onsite and two days remote Start Date: ASAP We are hiring a Controls Hardware Engineer for a leading global energy technology company. This position supports the design, development, testing, and installation of control-system hardware for gas turbines and other power-generation applications. Candidates should be located in the Greater Atlanta area or willing to relocate. Additional onsite attendance may be required for design reviews, factory acceptance testing, and other project activities. Responsibilitie s

  • Design DCS and PLC control cabinets for power-generation projects
  • Review customer specifications and identify project requirements and risks
  • Develop I/O lists and perform I/O channel allocation
  • Select PLC/DCS hardware, I/O cards, power supplies, and cabinet components
  • Perform cabinet heat-load and other electrical design calculations
  • Create electrical schematics, loop drawings, and installation documentation
  • Support site surveys, design reviews, FATs, installation, and commissioning
  • Integrate third-party systems with DCS and PLC platforms
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, controls, and project engineering teams
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable engineering and manufacturing standards Qualifications
  • Experience designing industrial control panels or control cabinets
  • Working knowledge of DCS/PLC hardware and analog/digital I/O
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical
  • Ability to develop I/O lists, loop drawings, and electrical schematics
  • Understanding of cabinet heat-load calculations and power distribution
  • Familiarity with Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, Profibus, and TCP/IP
  • Knowledge of industrial networking and third-party system integration
  • Familiarity with UL 508A, CSA, or related industry standards
  • Background in power generation, oil and gas, manufacturing, or industrial automation
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline preferred Gas-turbine experience is highly desirable, but candidates from steam, hydro, nuclear, industrial manufacturing, paper, food processing, or similar controls-heavy environments will also be considered.
